Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch completed a comprehensive 400 amp electrical service upgrade and pool house wiring project for Boon & Company Construction on August 29, 2024. Led by technician Danny Bishop, this job combined a full main service upgrade with a new 200 amp subpanel for a detached pool house, underground conduit runs, and new interior lighting. Scope of work
- Main service upgrade to 400A at the primary residence, complete with ground rods, main breaker disconnect, and surge protection, installed under permit and inspection.
- 200A pool house subpanel fed from the main service with properly sized conductors and underground conduit routing to the detached structure.
- Lighting enhancements including (7) additional can lights and (6) puck lights to elevate task and ambient lighting.
- Heater circuits wired and installed for (3) heaters to support year-round pool house comfort.
- Materials and methods included SER 4/0 (4-wire) conductors and dedicated conduit to ensure long-term reliability and code compliance.
- Trenching provided by the builder as coordinated in the project plan.
Pool house power and lighting done right
To support the new detached pool house, we installed a dedicated 200 amp subpanel and ran conduit underground from the main residence. This approach keeps circuits organized, provides ample capacity for present and future needs, and protects wiring from environmental exposure. Inside, new can and puck lighting were laid out for balanced illumination—ideal for entertaining, task work, and accent lighting—while dedicated circuits were added to safely power the installed heaters.
