Project Overview
Touchstone Electric completed a 26kW whole-home generator installation for Tina Smith in Indian Trail, NC. This turnkey backup power solution was delivered by our Matthews branch (Charlotte business unit) and wrapped up on February 18, 2025. Our goal was simple: dependable, automatic power for the entire home during outages, installed to code and designed for long-term reliability.
What We Installed
- 26kW Whole-Home Generator: Sized to support comprehensive household loads for seamless backup power.
- Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS): Detects outages and transitions the home from utility to generator power automatically, then back to utility when service is restored.
- Load-Shed Module: Smart load management to prioritize essential circuits and keep critical systems operating efficiently during longer outages.
- Concrete Equipment Pad: Stable, level mounting surface to protect the unit and meet installation best practices.
- Feeder and Conduit (up to 50 ft): Clean, code-compliant wiring routes for a professional, durable finish.
- Permitting and Inspection: Full electrical permitting and coordination of final inspection in Indian Trail to ensure compliance and safety.
- Fuel Connection Coordination: We coordinated a licensed plumber to connect the generator to the home’s existing natural gas or propane fuel source.

How the Installation Went
Our team began with a site evaluation to confirm clearances, ventilation, and the optimal location for the generator and ATS. We poured and set a concrete pad for a solid foundation, then installed the 26kW unit and ATS with precise placement for safe operation and future service access.
Next, we ran the feeder and conduit, completed terminations, and integrated the load-shed module to help manage high-demand circuits. We verified grounding and bonding, performed start-up checks, and coordinated with the plumber to finalize the gas hookup. The project concluded with permitting closeout and inspection to confirm a code-compliant, ready-to-run system.
