Project overview
Touchstone Electric completed a 200A indoor subpanel installation with multiple new dedicated circuits for Timber Ridge Apartments in Charlotte, NC. This Panels & Service Upgrades project (Subpanel Installation) was finished on February 25, 2025 by our Charlotte branch team based in Matthews.
The building already had an exterior disconnect and was fully energized, so no separate power drop was needed for this scope. The work also proceeded without a permit requirement for this subpanel installation.
What we installed
- 200A indoor subpanel: Added capacity and organized distribution for new and existing branch circuits.
- New range circuit and receptacle: Installed and supplied new 6/3 NM-B range wiring, a dedicated breaker, and a new outlet to serve the kitchen range.
- Two 50A breakers: Provisioned for high-demand equipment, including the dedicated range circuit.
- Six 20A breakers: Dedicated small-appliance circuits to support everyday loads and reduce nuisance tripping.
- Five 15A breakers: For bathroom lighting and standard branch circuits, aligned with 2020 code requirements.
- 30 feet of 6/3 NM-B cable: Installed to deliver a reliable 240V/50A supply to the range location.
All devices and breakers were neatly terminated and labeled in the new subpanel to simplify future maintenance and additions.
Why this project matters
- More capacity, less overload risk: The 200A subpanel creates space for present and future circuits while helping balance loads.
- Dedicated appliance power: Properly sized 50A and 20A circuits ensure major appliances and small appliances operate safely and efficiently.
- Cleaner distribution: Consolidating new circuits in a dedicated subpanel improves serviceability for property management and residents.
Safety and code considerations
Our electricians follow current electrical codes and best practices for conductor sizing, breaker selection, equipment grounding, and GFCI/AFCI considerations where applicable. For this project, bathroom lighting and standard branch circuits were set up to align with 2020 code requirements. With the building’s exterior disconnect in place and the service energized, no additional power drop was required for the subpanel scope.
