Project overview in Inman, SC

Touchstone Electric’s Greenville team (Taylors branch) completed a comprehensive 200A service upgrade and meter base replacement for homeowner Curt Watkins in Inman, SC. Led by technician Tyler Harris, this project modernized the home’s electrical service, relocated the main distribution equipment to a safer, more accessible location, and brought new addition wiring up to current code. Completion date: March 13, 2025.

This job is part of our Panels & Service Upgrades and Meter Base & Service Replacement services in the Inman area.

Scope of work

  • 200A service and meter base upgrade: Furnished and installed a new 200 amp exterior meter/panel combo. Coordinated with the utility for service transfer and installed an upgraded grounding system with driven ground rods and grounding electrode conductors.
  • Main panel relocation and interior subpanel: Removed the existing panel from a bathroom closet and relocated distribution to the basement laundry. Installed a 100A main-lug interior panel and routed feeders/conduit to interconnect with the new exterior combo panel for a clean, code-compliant layout.
  • New addition and basement wiring: Wired receptacles and switches for the upstairs addition and basement areas. Included allowances for four coach lights (two on each floor) and one ceiling fan in the family room.
  • Recessed lighting: Wired, furnished, and installed twelve 6-inch can lights distributed across the family room, kitchen, and basement in the new area.
  • Smoke detection: Hard-wired and interconnected smoke detectors to current code so alarms communicate throughout the home.
  • Basement fan rewiring with protection: Rewired two basement ceiling fans and installed switches. Used carflex to protect conductors in open-ceiling sections for durability and compliance.
  • HVAC and specialty circuits: Rewired the attic electric heat unit with copper conductors for reliability and safe operation.
  • Safety corrections: Cleaned up open splices discovered in the attic. Noted pre-existing basement conditions (Romex through open ceilings and outlets not to code) and ensured all new work met current NEC requirements. Any inspector-requested items beyond the quoted scope were set to be handled via change order.

Why this upgrade matters

  • Capacity and reliability: A modern 200A service supports today’s appliances, HVAC systems, lighting, and future additions without frequent breaker trips.
  • Safer equipment placement: Relocating the panel from a bathroom closet to the basement laundry improves accessibility and aligns with code and safety best practices.
  • Cleaner distribution: The exterior meter/panel combo paired with an interior subpanel creates a clear, organized system that simplifies maintenance and future upgrades.
  • Code-compliant life safety: Interconnected smoke detectors and protected basement wiring elevate safety throughout the home.
  • Better lighting and comfort: Energy-efficient recessed lighting and properly wired fans improve day-to-day comfort and usability.
