Project Overview
Our team upgraded the exterior meter and service equipment, installed a new indoor 200A main panel, and added two outdoor outlets—one at the front and one at the back of the home. All work was permitted and coordinated to minimize downtime, including scheduling the power drop with the utility and arranging inspections.
What We Upgraded
- 200A Meter/Panel Combo (over/under with feed-through lugs): Installed a new aluminum-bus meter-panel combo, set new ground rods with grounding electrode conductors, handled permits, and coordinated the utility disconnect/reconnect.
- Riser with Weatherhead: Installed IMC conduit from the meter base to the weatherhead with proper strapping and a roof boot, and pulled new service entrance cable to the weatherhead.
- Indoor 200A Main Panel (ALUMINUM): Replaced the existing fused panel with a new 200A panel, properly grounded and bonded, reconnected existing circuits, and fully labeled the panel for clarity. Includes a surge protector with a $10k warranty and a 20-year transferable panel warranty (aluminum model).
- Service Entrance Conductors: Ran new 4/0 SEU (3-wire) aluminum service cable sized for a 200A system between the service drop, meter, and distribution panel as applicable.
- New Breakers: Installed a balanced set of modern breakers, including 50A, 40A, and 30A double-pole units, plus multiple 20A and 15A branch-circuit breakers to support common household loads.
- Two Outdoor Outlets: Added outlets at the front and rear of the home for convenient outdoor power.
To keep the home functional during the utility outage, Touchstone can make a generator available for limited power on request.
Safety, Permitting, and Code
Every service upgrade we complete in Thomasville is permitted and inspected. As inspectors continue adopting the 2020 NEC, they may require upgrades to AFCI protection on certain circuits. In some homes, installing AFCI devices can reveal preexisting issues such as shared neutrals, which may cause immediate tripping and require additional diagnostic work to resolve. Our licensed electricians explain these possibilities up front and provide clear options if any corrections are needed.
Benefits of a 200A Upgrade
- More capacity and headroom: Ready for HVAC upgrades, kitchen appliances, EV charging, and future circuits.
- Improved safety and reliability: New equipment, proper grounding and bonding, and clearly labeled circuits.
- Better resale value and peace of mind: Modern infrastructure and documented inspections.
