200A Panel Upgrade and Service Wiring in Shelby, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team, based out of our Matthews branch, completed a comprehensive electrical panel upgrade for homeowner Tracy Rippy in Shelby, NC. Led by technician Theo Coetsee, this project modernized the home’s main service to improve safety, reliability, and future capacity. Completed on July 27, 2024, the work was permitted and inspected for full code compliance.
Scope of Work Completed
- Main Panel Replacement (200A, indoor) – Removed the existing equipment and installed a new 200-amp main panel. The panel was properly grounded, bonded, and clearly labeled. Existing circuits and the service entrance conductors were reconnected with neat, serviceable terminations.
- New Service Entrance Cable – Ran approximately 30 feet of 4/0 SER (4-wire) from the meter combo to the main panel to deliver a dependable 200A feed.
- Protective PVC Conduit – Installed about 10 feet of 2-inch PVC conduit with fittings for a secure and tidy exterior routing solution.
- New Breakers Installed – Added appropriately sized breakers to serve the home’s major and general-use loads:
- One 50A standard breaker for larger appliances or equipment
- One 30A double-pole breaker commonly used for appliances like dryers or water heaters
- Nine 15A standard breakers for lighting and general branch circuits
- Surge Protection at the Panel – Installed whole-home surge protection to help safeguard sensitive electronics and appliances.
- Permitting, Inspection, and Temporary Power – We handled the permit and inspection process, and made a generator available for limited power usage during the outage.
