200A Panel Upgrade and Meter Base Replacement in Shelby, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch completed a comprehensive service upgrade for homeowner Tracy Rippy in Shelby, NC on August 2, 2024. Lead technician Ben Lively delivered a code-compliant 200-amp service with new grounding, a meter/panel combo, updated breakers for legacy fuse circuits, and whole-home surge protection. Our Matthews team handled permitting, utility coordination, and inspection support from start to finish.

Scope of Work Completed

200A Meter/Panel Combo with Feed-Through Lugs: New meter/panel combo installed with labeling, conduit to the weatherhead, and service entrance cable to the drip loop. Utility power drop scheduling and permitting were coordinated.
New 200A Main Breaker Panel (Indoor): Panel was grounded and bonded, main lugs replaced, service entrance reconnected, and all existing circuits reconnected. Panel labeling performed for clarity and safety.
Feeder to Subpanel: Installed and supplied new SER 2/0 (4-wire) feeder to support downstream distribution.
Grounding System: Upgraded with ground rods and grounding electrode conductors to improve safety and reduce fault risk.
Whole-Home Surge Protection: Installed a surge protector for added protection across the home’s electrical system.
Breaker Updates for Former Fuse Circuits: Replaced legacy fuse circuits with modern breakers, including:
- 1x 30A Double Pole
- 1x 50A Standard
- 2x 20A Standard
- 2x 15A Standard
Permits and Inspection: All required permits were pulled, and our team stood for the county inspection.

Note: As part of the selected installation packages, the main panel included a 20-year transferable panel warranty, and the solutions installed included a surge protector with a $25k warranty. A management discount was applied to the project.
