200A Service Upgrade Completed in Wilson, NC

Our Raleigh branch completed a comprehensive 200-amp panel and meter upgrade for Bobby & Felicia Curry in Wilson, NC on 2025-04-29. Led by technician Cody Perry, this project modernized the home’s electrical service, improved safety, and aligned the system with current code requirements—all backed by our lifetime craftsmanship warranty.

What We Upgraded

  • 200A Meter Base Upgrade: Coordinated the utility power drop, pulled permits, installed the new 200-amp meter base, and updated the grounding electrode conductors with new ground rods for a resilient, code-compliant service entrance.
  • Riser and Weatherhead: Installed a new riser with IMC conduit, proper strapping, roof boot, and service entrance cable from the meter to the weatherhead for durable overhead service protection.
  • 200A Copper Main Panel (Indoor): Replaced the main panel with a copper bus bar panel, grounded and bonded the enclosure, reconnected and clearly labeled all circuits, and completed permitting and inspection. This panel includes a 50-year transferable panel warranty for long-term peace of mind.
  • Service Entrance Cable: Installed 4-wire SER 4/0 from the main panel to the subpanel to support the upgraded service capacity and proper neutral/ground separation where required.
  • Right-Sized Circuit Protection: Installed new standard breakers matched to the home’s loads, including 15A and 20A branch circuits and properly sized two-pole breakers for larger appliances and HVAC equipment.
  • Whole-Home Surge Protection: Added a panel-mounted surge protective device designed to divert excess voltage safely to ground. This unit includes 10-year coverage with up to $100k equipment protection, helping shield appliances and electronics from voltage spikes.
  • Whole-Home Redevice: Replaced standard and GFCI receptacles, switches, and wall plates across the home to bring devices to current code, including upgrades to tamper-resistant receptacles where required.
  • Grounding System Upgrade: Enhanced the grounding system with new ground rods and proper bonding for improved fault clearing and safety system performance.

Code Compliance and Inspection-Ready

All work was permitted and inspected. As local inspectors apply current NEC requirements, we prepared the system for items commonly reviewed—proper bonding and grounding, secure riser and weatherhead installation, labeled circuits, and appropriate GFCI and device updates. Where AFCI or other upgrades are required by the inspector, we address those needs to keep the home compliant and safe.
