200A Outdoor Main Panel Upgrade in Charlotte, NC
On May 10, 2025, our Charlotte team based out of our Matthews branch completed a comprehensive electrical panel upgrade for homeowner Melanie Overcash in Charlotte, NC. Lead technician Patrick Burke relocated all interior circuits into a new 200-amp copper outdoor main panel, brought the installation in line with current electrical code, added GFCI protection where required, and installed a new hallway outlet.
This project strengthens service capacity, enhances safety with modern grounding and protection, and sets the home up for future electrical needs such as EV charging, upgraded HVAC equipment, and kitchen or laundry improvements.
What We Delivered
- Complete panel relocation: Moved all existing interior circuits to a new weather-rated copper main panel outdoors.

Installed Components and Electrical Details
- Main Panel: 200-amp outdoor copper main panel, grounded and bonded, service conductors reconnected, circuits relabeled.
- Grounding: Ground rods driven and connected with listed clamps; grounding electrode conductor routed to the service equipment.

- 2 × 60A standard
- 1 × 100A (2-pole) for a subpanel
- 1 × 50A standard
- 2 × 30A (double pole)
- 1 × 20A (double pole)
- 9 × 20A standard
- 3 × 15A standard
- Branch wiring:
- 223 ft NM-B 12/2 for 20-amp small appliance and receptacle circuits
- 150 ft NM-B 14/2 for lighting and general-purpose circuits
- 100 ft NM-B 10/3 for 30-amp 240V loads (dryer, water heater, etc.)
- 50 ft NM-B 6/3 for 50-amp 240V loads
- Receptacles and protection: 2 × GFCI outlets installed with appropriate covers; new hallway receptacle added.
