200A Meter/Panel Upgrade and Service Replacement in Winston Salem, NC
Touchstone Electric recently completed a comprehensive 200-amp meter/panel combo upgrade for Jasmine Wofford in Winston Salem. Performed by our Charlotte branch team based in Matthews, this project modernized the home’s electrical service, improved safety, and prepared the system for current and future power needs.

Project Overview
We replaced the existing equipment with a new 200A meter/panel combo and installed a dedicated service riser and weatherhead. Our team secured all required permits and coordinated the utility power drop to minimize downtime. We also enhanced the grounding system with new ground rods and grounding electrode conductors to meet code and improve fault protection.
What We Upgraded
- Meter/Panel Combo (200A): New over/under configuration with feed-through lugs for future expandability and clean load management.
- Service Riser and Weatherhead: Installed using IMC conduit from the meter base to the weatherhead with all required straps, roof boot, and a properly rated service entrance cable.
- Grounding and Bonding: Installed ground rods with grounding electrode conductors to improve safety and inspection readiness.
- Conduit Protection: Routed unprotected conductors into code-compliant conduit for exterior and exposed sections.
- Permits and Utility Coordination: Pulled permits and scheduled the temporary power drop with the utility provider for a smooth changeover.
New Breakers and Dedicated Circuits
To complete the service upgrade, we supplied and installed breakers to match the home’s loads and allow for future growth:
- 6x 20A standard breakers for small appliance and general-purpose circuits
- 3x 15A standard breakers for lighting and standard branch circuits
- 2x 30A double-pole breakers for appliances like dryer, water heater, or A/C
- 1x 60A standard breaker for high-demand equipment or EV charging
- 1x 70A standard breaker for range, furnace, or a small subpanel
We also added a weather-resistant GFCI outlet beneath the panel with a protective bubble cover, tied to a new 15A breaker. This brings the installation in line with outdoor receptacle and GFCI requirements while making maintenance tasks safer and more convenient.
Built for Code Compliance and Reliability
Our work aligns with current inspection standards in Winston Salem. As local inspectors continue implementing NEC 2020 requirements, some homes may need upgrades such as AFCI protection on certain circuits. If AFCI upgrades are requested by the inspector, our team can diagnose and correct preexisting wiring issues (such as shared neutrals) to ensure proper operation.
