About this service upgrade in Winston-Salem

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch (Matthews) completed a 200-amp meter/panel combo service replacement for homeowner Louann Currey in Winston-Salem, NC. The project was led by technician Christian Cedillos and completed on December 3, 2025. This job falls under our Panels & Service Upgrades and Meter Base & Service Replacement services.

Work proceeded once the existing RV port was removed to provide the clearances needed to access and replace the service equipment safely and in line with inspection requirements.

Louann praised our team with a positive review following completion of the project.

Scope of work and installed components

We replaced the home’s aging service equipment with a modern, code-compliant 200A solution and corrected safety items identified on the electrical inspection report, along with additional concerns discovered during our visit. Major elements included:

  • 200A Meter/Panel Combo (over/under, feed-through lugs) – Coordinated the utility power drop, pulled permits, installed the new meter/panel combo, and added ground rods with grounding electrode conductors.
  • Breakers installed:
    • 1 × 125A (2-pole) subpanel breaker
    • 1 × 60A standard breaker
    • 1 × 50A standard breaker
    • 2 × 30A double-pole standard breakers
    • 1 × 20A GFCI breaker for required locations such as bathrooms, laundry, garage, or exterior circuits
  • Customer-supplied appliance connection – One major appliance installation with receptacle or hard-wired connection completed during the same visit.
  • Circuit wiring – 15 feet of NM-B 10/3 cable for 30A, 240V appliance circuits, with any necessary junction box.

This upgrade improves service capacity, grounding, and protection while setting the home up for reliable performance and a smooth inspection.

Permits, utility coordination, and code compliance

All work was permitted and scheduled with the utility so power could be safely disconnected and restored. Our team installed new grounding components and completed the service in alignment with NEC 2020 and local requirements to help ensure a successful inspection.

As inspectors in many areas continue implementing NEC 2020, some homes may require AFCI breaker upgrades. In certain cases, preexisting conditions like shared neutrals can cause immediate tripping and require additional diagnostics to resolve. Our electricians explain these possibilities up front and work with homeowners to find the best path to compliance.

If needed during a planned outage, Touchstone Electric can make a generator available for limited power use upon request.
