On October 21, 2025, our Raleigh branch completed a safe, code-compliant service upgrade for homeowner Tom Marinello in New Hill, NC. Lead technician Cody Perry replaced an aging service with a modern 200-amp meter/panel combination and added whole-house surge protection to protect the home’s electrical system and sensitive equipment.

Scope of work
- Coordinated the utility power drop and pulled all required permits for a smooth, compliant upgrade process.
- Removed the existing gear and installed a new 200A meter/panel combo, providing organized, serviceable spaces at the exterior.
- Installed new grounding electrode system (ground rods and grounding electrode conductors) to current standards for safer fault clearing.
- Added a whole-home surge protective device (SPD) at the main panel to divert transient overvoltage to ground and shield the home’s wiring and equipment from lightning-induced surges, utility fluctuations, and equipment cycling.
- Labeled circuits, verified terminations and torque, and prepared the installation for inspection.
Items outside this project’s scope included replacing the riser/weatherhead, service-entrance conductors to the weatherhead, new panel breakers, and any feeders/conduit to interior main panels. When needed, these items are evaluated and quoted separately. During scheduled outages, our team can make a generator available for limited temporary power upon request.
Code readiness and AFCI considerations
As local inspectors increasingly apply NEC 2020 provisions, some homes are required to upgrade specific circuits to AFCI protection. In certain houses, preexisting conditions such as shared neutrals can cause immediate AFCI tripping. If discovered, this may require targeted diagnostics—sometimes tracing affected lighting or receptacle circuits—to correct the underlying wiring condition and achieve a stable, code-compliant result.

This installation is backed by our lifetime craftsmanship warranty on workmanship. The installed surge protector includes $50,000, 10-year equipment coverage in the unlikely event of SPD failure. Claims are secondary to your existing insurance policy and direct lightning strikes are excluded.
Covered equipment typically includes major household appliances and electrical system components—such as washer, dryer, refrigerator/freezer, indoor HVAC unit, dishwasher, garbage disposal, stove, wiring, outlets/switches, breakers, and other hard-wired devices (for example, built-in microwaves, furnaces, air handlers, ranges, and home/landscape lighting)—when protected by a properly connected SPD. Security systems and medical equipment are excluded.
