200A Meter/Main Panel Replacement Completed in Goldsboro

Touchstone Electric completed a residential electrical service upgrade for Bryan Yonke in Goldsboro. Our Raleigh team, including Gray Gorrell and Eric Myers, replaced the existing meter/main electrical panel with a new 200-amp meter and panel combination designed to provide a modernized point of connection for the home’s electrical service.

This completed project included permit coordination, scheduling the power disconnect with the utility provider, installation of the new meter/panel combo, and updated grounding components. Replacing an aging or inadequate electrical panel can help support a home’s current electrical demands while providing organized, reliable circuit protection.

New Meter/Main Panel and Circuit Breakers

The Goldsboro panel replacement included a 200-amp meter/main combination with feed-through lugs and an aluminum bus bar. The new equipment provides the primary location for service disconnecting and circuit protection while allowing for the home’s electrical distribution needs.

As part of the installation, the team installed new breakers for designated circuits and equipment, including:

  • One 100-amp two-pole breaker for a subpanel
  • One 60-amp standard breaker for applicable high-demand equipment
  • One 30-amp double-pole breaker for applicable 240-volt equipment
  • One 20-amp double-pole breaker for applicable small-appliance circuits

Correct breaker sizing and proper panel configuration are important for protecting electrical circuits and supporting equipment such as ranges, heating equipment, dryers, air conditioners, water heaters, EV chargers, or subpanels when applicable to the home.

Grounding and Permit Coordination

A meter and service panel replacement involves more than changing the panel itself. For this project, Touchstone Electric installed ground rods and grounding electrode conductors as part of the service upgrade. Proper grounding helps provide a path for certain fault and surge conditions and is a critical component of a safe electrical service installation.

Our team also pulled the required permit and coordinated the power drop with the power provider. Utility coordination helps ensure the service can be safely disconnected and restored during a meter/main replacement. An electrical assistant was also assigned to help complete the work efficiently.

Whole-Home Surge Protection Installed

In addition to the panel upgrade, Touchstone Electric installed a whole-home surge protection system at the main electrical panel. A panel-mounted surge protector is designed to divert excess voltage toward the grounding system before it can travel through the home’s wiring and reach connected electrical equipment.

Whole-home surge protection can help reduce exposure to voltage spikes caused by power-grid fluctuations, electrical equipment cycling, and certain surge events. It can be a valuable layer of protection for hardwired appliances, home electronics, breakers, outlets, switches, and other connected electrical components. The installed surge protection system includes a stated $10,000, three-year equipment warranty, subject to its applicable terms, conditions, exclusions, and existing insurance coverage.
