Project overview
Our Raleigh branch completed a 200-amp meter/main electrical panel replacement for homeowner Mary Roberson in Louisburg, NC. Led by technician Matthew Castello, this upgrade brought the service equipment up to current electrical code, included proper grounding and bonding practices per NEC, and was prepared for municipal inspection with the required permit pulled. Completion date: November 13, 2025.
Work performed
- Permit pulled and coordination for inspection included.
- Replaced the outdoor 200A meter/main panel with an ALUMINUM bus bar cabinet, labeled all circuits, and replaced the main lug.
- Grounded and bonded the panel to meet current code requirements.
- Reconnected the service entrance conductors and tied in existing branch circuits.
- Installed a $10,000 warranty surge protector to help protect sensitive electronics and appliances.
- Provided a temporary generator option for limited power during the planned outage.
- Signature Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty included with this installation.
- 20-year transferrable warranty on the panel (compared to the 50-year warranty for our copper panel installation).
Scope note: This panel replacement does not include breakers, a service disconnect, feeder, or a utility meter upgrade (if needed).
Code, safety, and AFCI considerations
As inspectors continue implementing NEC 2020, you may be asked to upgrade certain circuits to AFCI breakers. While AFCI protection enhances safety, it can reveal preexisting wiring conditions—such as shared neutrals—that may cause immediate tripping. In those cases, diagnosis can take time and may require opening devices on affected circuits to locate and correct the issue. We share this in advance so homeowners know what to expect should the inspector require AFCI upgrades.
