Project overview
Touchstone Electric completed a 200A meter/panel combo and full service upgrade for homeowner Andrew Milord in Charlotte, NC. Led by technician Jose Rodriguez from our Charlotte team, the project wrapped up on January 7, 2026, and delivered a code-compliant, reliable service entrance with coordinated utility power work and permitting.
This Panels & Service Upgrades project also aligns with our Meter Base & Service Replacement services. The exterior combo provides modern capacity and safety while the existing interior panel was retained as a junction point to streamline circuits and minimize interior disruption.
Installed equipment and scope
Our team provided a turnkey installation focused on safety, compliance, and clean workmanship. Scope included permitting, utility coordination, and grounding, along with targeted breaker and wiring updates to support present and future loads.
- 200A Meter/Panel Combo (side-by-side with feed-through lugs): Exterior installation with permits, scheduled power drop, and a complete grounding system using ground rods and grounding electrode conductors.
- Breaker updates:
- 4x 20A standard breakers (small appliance circuits)
- 1x 20A double-pole standard breaker (small appliances/heavy 120V loads)
- 4x 60A standard breakers (range, heater/furnace, small subpanel, EV charger, etc.)
- 1x 40A standard breaker (dryer, water heater, condenser, spa, EV charger, etc.)
- 7x 15A standard breakers (bathroom lights and standard branch circuits)
- Wiring runs as needed for circuit integrity and capacity:
- 50 ft NM-B Romex 14/2 for 15A lighting and general-purpose circuits
- 20 ft NM-B Romex 12/2 for 20A appliance and receptacle circuits
- 20 ft SEU #6 (3-wire) for 60A equipment such as EV charging, A/C, or furnace
- 1x custom individual line run to meet layout requirements
Note: The meter/panel combo scope does not include the riser/weatherhead, service entrance cable from the new meter to the weatherhead, or feeder and conduit to main panels if needed. These items can be quoted separately based on site conditions.
Code and inspection considerations (NEC 2020)
As inspectors increasingly enforce NEC 2020, some homes may require AFCI upgrades on affected circuits. AFCI installations can reveal preexisting wiring conditions—such as shared neutrals—that may cause nuisance tripping until corrected. In situations like a shared neutral, diagnosing and separating affected circuits can require additional time to trace and resolve.
We discuss these possibilities during planning so you understand potential inspection notes and the path to a fully compliant, reliable system.
Utility coordination and downtime
We coordinated the power drop with the utility to minimize downtime and streamline inspection. For homeowners who need limited power during the outage, Touchstone can provide a temporary generator solution upon request.
