200A Meter Combo & Electrical Panel Upgrade in Greenville, SC

Touchstone Electric completed a comprehensive service upgrade for Mary Carlisle in Greenville, SC. Our Greenville team, operating from our Taylors branch, replaced an aging underground-service meter with a new 200 amp meter/panel combo, upgraded feeders, improved grounding and bonding, and added a dedicated 100 amp shop feed. The project was completed on October 9, 2025 by our licensed technicians Aaron Smith and Tyler Harris.

Primary category: Panels & Service Upgrades | Secondary category: Meter Base & Service Replacement

Scope of Work

  • Removed the existing meter with underground service and prepared the service entrance for the new equipment.
  • Installed a 200A over/under meter/panel combo with feed-through lugs for future expansion.
  • Ran new 4-wire SER 4/0 feeder (approximately 35 ft) from the meter combo to the interior panel.
  • Consolidated circuits from the exterior panel into the new meter/panel combo for a cleaner, code-compliant layout.
  • Installed a ground rod system with grounding electrode conductors and an Intersystem Bonding Bridge.
  • Separated neutrals and grounds in the interior panel to meet current code requirements.
  • Added a 100A shop circuit from the meter combo for dedicated workshop power.

Materials and Components Installed

  • Meter/Panel Combo – 200A (over/under) with feed-through lugs for flexible distribution.
  • SER 4/0 aluminum feeder (4-wire) to serve the interior panel with a modern, grounded/neutral-separated system.
  • Breakers:
    • 100A 2-pole breaker for the shop feed/subpanel.
    • 50A standard breaker for heavy loads (range, EV charger, or similar).
    • 30A 2-pole breaker typically used for appliances like a dryer or water heater.
    • 20A standard breaker for small appliance/general circuits.
  • Ground rod system and Intersystem Bonding Bridge for safe bonding of communication systems.

Permits, Utility Coordination, and Code Compliance

We handled scheduling the power drop with the local utility, secured permits, and completed the installation to pass current inspection standards. As Greenville-area inspectors continue adopting the 2020 NEC, some homes may require upgraded AFCI protection. Installing AFCI breakers can reveal preexisting wiring issues—such as shared neutrals—that may cause nuisance tripping and require diagnostic time to correct. Our team explains these findings clearly and provides options to resolve them.

During this upgrade, we ensured proper grounding and bonding, corrected neutral/ground separation in the interior panel, and delivered a tidy, labeled installation that improves safety and reliability.

Results for This Greenville Home

  • Increased capacity: A full 200A service supports present loads and future additions.
  • Cleaner distribution: Consolidated circuits and updated breakers simplify maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Safer system: Dedicated grounding electrodes and bonding enhance fault clearing and protection.
  • Ready for growth: A 100A shop feed supports tools and equipment, and the panel is set up for future projects like EV charging or outdoor power.
  • Minimal downtime: We coordinated all utility and inspection steps; upon request, we can make a generator available for limited power during outages.
