200A Meter Base Upgrade and Surge Protection in Winston-Salem, NC
Touchstone Electric completed a comprehensive service upgrade for homeowner Andrew Long in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. On September 12, 2025, our Charlotte branch team out of Matthews—led by technicians Theo Coetsee and Robert Sloan—installed a new 200-amp meter/panel combo, added whole-home surge protection, upgraded the grounding system, and provided a new feeder to the interior panel (now serving as a subpanel). All work was performed under the proper electrical permits with coordination for utility disconnect/reconnect and inspections.

What We Installed
- 200A Meter/Panel Combo: Supplied and installed an over/under configuration with feed-through lugs to streamline service equipment and provide robust capacity for present and future loads.
- Whole-Home Surge Protector: Added a service-level surge protective device to help defend major appliances, electronics, and smart-home gear from damaging voltage spikes.
- New Grounding System: Installed ground rods and grounding electrode conductors to improve fault-clearing performance and stabilize the home’s electrical reference to earth.
- New Subpanel Feed: Ran new feeder conductors from the meter/panel combo to the interior panel, reconfiguring it to operate as a subpanel.
- Permits and Inspections: Managed electrical permitting, coordinated with the power provider for the service drop, and scheduled the required inspections.
Materials for this installation included new 4/0 THHN feeder conductors suitable for a durable, code-compliant subpanel supply.
