Customer: Pat McRae
Location: Greenville, NC
Branch: Raleigh
Technician: Matthew Castello
Date Completed: April 10, 2026
Primary Category: Panels & Service Upgrades
Secondary Category: Meter Base & Service Replacement
Project Overview
Our Raleigh branch completed a 200-amp meter base installation with a new grounding electrode system for a residential property in Greenville, NC. This service upgrade improves safety and reliability, supports modern electrical demand, and aligns the home’s service equipment with current electrical code requirements.
Scope of Work Performed
- Pulled required permits and coordinated inspections with the local authority having jurisdiction.
- Coordinated with the utility provider to schedule the temporary power drop and outage window.
- Installed a new 200-amp meter base suitable for the home’s service conditions.
- Installed a new meter and verified proper installation per utility requirements.
- Installed new grounding electrodes and grounding electrode conductors, bonding the service equipment for a safe, low-impedance path to ground.
This combination of a modern meter base and a properly bonded grounding system helps protect the home against faults and lightning surges, reduces nuisance breaker trips, and provides a solid foundation for any future service or panel upgrades.
What Was Included vs. Not Included
The meter base and grounding package for this project included:
- Permit procurement and inspection coordination
- Scheduling and coordinating the utility power drop
- New 200A meter base installation
- New ground rods and grounding electrode conductors
The following items were not part of this scope:
- Riser/weatherhead
- Service entrance cable from the new meter to the weatherhead
- Feeder and conduit to main panels (if needed)
If you require any of the above items, our team can assess and provide a tailored plan to complete the full service replacement or panel feeder work.
Outage Planning and Temporary Power
To minimize disruption during the scheduled outage, Touchstone Electric can make a generator available for limited power usage upon request. Our team will discuss your needs in advance so we can help keep essential loads running while work is underway.
Why This Upgrade Matters
- Safety: A code-compliant grounding electrode system helps clear faults quickly and protects equipment.
- Capacity: A 200A meter base supports today’s electrical loads, from HVAC upgrades to EV charging and renovations.
- Compliance: Proper permitting, inspections, and utility coordination ensure the installation meets current standards.
