Touchstone Electric completed a code-compliant 200-amp outdoor main panel replacement for a Charlotte homeowner on 2025-02-10. Led by technician Christian Cedillos from our Matthews-based Charlotte branch, this project ensured safer, more reliable power distribution and clear labeling for future service.

Scope of Work and Safety Enhancements

Our team replaced the existing main panel with a new 200A aluminum outdoor panel and brought the installation up to current electrical code. The work focused on safety, clarity, and long-term performance.

Panel replacement and labeling: Installed a new outdoor-rated 200A main panel, upgraded the main lugs, and clearly labeled all circuits for fast troubleshooting.
Grounding and bonding: Properly grounded and bonded the panel to improve fault protection and reduce shock risk.

Whole-home surge protection: Included a surge protector featuring a $10,000 warranty for covered connected equipment.

Power management during the swap: Power was temporarily disconnected during the panel change; a generator was made available for limited use during the outage.
Panel warranty: The new panel carries a 20-year transferable warranty.

New Breakers Installed

To match the home’s load needs and support major appliances, we installed new breakers as part of this upgrade:

Two 30A double-pole breakers — commonly used for equipment such as dryers, water heaters, air condensers, spas, or EV chargers.
Three 50A breakers — suitable for ranges, heaters/furnaces, small subpanels, or EV charging loads.
One 60A breaker — ideal for higher-demand appliances like ranges, heaters/furnaces, or subpanels.

Code Compliance and AFCI Considerations
