Touchstone Electric completed a full 200-amp copper main panel upgrade for homeowner Joshua Phillips in Asheville, NC. This Panels & Service Upgrades project, performed by our Hendersonville branch and supported by our Charlotte business unit, modernized the home’s power distribution, improved protection, and aligned the system with current electrical code.
To keep the home functional during the changeout, our team provided a generator for limited power use while service was temporarily disconnected. All permitting and inspection were included to ensure a smooth, compliant completion.
What We Installed
- Indoor 200A Copper Main Panel: Brought to current code, grounded and bonded, service entrance and existing circuits reconnected, and the new panel fully labeled.
- Surge Protection: Whole-home surge protector included, backed by a $10k warranty.

- Branch Circuit Enhancements: 65 ft of NM-B 10/3 cable for 30-amp, 240V appliance circuits as needed.
- New Outlets: 6 standard receptacles with covers installed.
- Equipment Safety: 2 pull-out disconnects (≤60A) for A/C or similar equipment to provide safe maintenance shutoff.
Code and Safety Upgrades
Our electricians updated the grounding and bonding, labeled the new panel for clarity, and added AFCI/GFCI protection in the appropriate locations for enhanced safety. These improvements help reduce risks associated with arc faults, ground faults, and power surges, giving Asheville homeowners greater confidence in their electrical systems.
As inspectors in our area implement NEC 2020 requirements, some circuits may require AFCI breakers.
