200A Electrical Panel Upgrade in Charlotte, NC
Our Charlotte branch completed a comprehensive 200-amp main electrical panel upgrade for customer Jordan Massey on May 10, 2024. Led by technician Christian Cedillos, this project brought the home’s service equipment up to current electrical code, improved safety, and added capacity for present and future electrical needs.
As a licensed residential contractor serving the greater Charlotte area from our Matthews branch location, Touchstone Electric managed the entire process, including county permitting and coordinating inspections, so the upgrade was completed smoothly and to local requirements.
What We Upgraded
- Filed the county electrical permit and scheduled all required inspections.
- Removed the aging main panel and installed a new 200-amp indoor main panel designed to meet today’s safety and performance standards.
- Grounded and bonded the panel and reconnected the service entrance cable and existing branch circuits.
- Labeled all circuits clearly for easier identification and future maintenance.
- Added whole-home surge protection to help safeguard sensitive electronics and appliances from power surges.
- Provided a temporary generator connection for limited power use during the scheduled outage, minimizing disruption while work was completed.
To optimize distribution and protection at the new panel, our team also installed and replaced breakers as needed:
- 7x 20-amp standard breakers for small appliance and general-use circuits
- 5x 15-amp standard breakers for lighting and standard branch circuits
- 1x 100-amp 2-pole breaker serving a subpanel
- 2x 40-amp breakers sized for larger loads such as a dryer, water heater, air condenser, spa, or EV charger
