200A Electrical Panel Upgrade and Whole-Home Surge Protection in Spring Lake, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh branch completed a comprehensive service upgrade for Thomas Thompson in Spring Lake, NC. Led by technician Cody Perry, this project modernized the home’s main electrical infrastructure, increased safety and capacity, and added robust surge protection. Scope of Work
- Permit and Inspection: Pulled the required electrical permit and coordinated inspection for code compliance.
- Main Panel Replacement (200A, indoor): Removed the existing panel and installed a new 200A panel with an aluminum bus, properly grounded and bonded. Labeled circuits, reconnected the service entrance conductors, and verified terminations.
- Whole-Home Surge Protection: Installed a panel-mounted surge protective device with a $50,000 / 10-year warranty on covered equipment.
- Breaker Upgrades: Added and replaced breakers as needed, including:
- 1 × 60A standard breaker
- 1 × 50A standard breaker
- 3 × 30A double-pole breakers
- 8 × 20A standard breakers
- 6 × 15A standard breakers
- 3 × 15A AFCI breakers
- 1 × 20A tandem breaker
- Dedicated Circuits: Installed two new 15/20A 120V dedicated circuits with GFCI breakers to support individual loads.
- Whole-Home Redevice: Replaced standard and GFCI outlets, switches, and plates across approximately 1,922 sq ft, upgrading receptacles to tamper-resistant for added safety.
- Wiring and Feeds: Installed THHN 2/0 feeder conductors as needed for 200A service and added NM-B 12/2 branch wiring, fishing cable through finished areas to maintain clean walls.
