Project overview
Our Raleigh branch completed a 200A electrical panel upgrade with whole-home surge protection for homeowner Jim Groves in Seven Lakes, NC on February 18, 2026. Led by technician Gustavo Peralta, this service brought the home’s main service equipment up to current code, improved capacity and safety, and added robust protection against damaging voltage spikes.
What we upgraded
- Permitting and inspection coordination: We pulled the required permit and coordinated inspection with the local authority to ensure a smooth, compliant process.
- Main electrical panel replacement (200A, indoor): We installed a new aluminum-bus panel, completed proper grounding and bonding, labeled all circuits, reconnected the service entrance conductors, and tied in the existing branch circuits. The panel includes a 20-year transferable panel warranty, backed by our Signature Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty.
- Whole-home surge protection: We added a panel-mounted surge protection device with $50,000 of covered-equipment protection for 10 years, helping shield appliances and electronics from lightning-related surges, utility fluctuations, and everyday switching spikes.
- Breaker updates for safety and reliability:
- 2 × 50A standard breakers
- 2 × 30A double-pole breakers
- 9 × 20A standard breakers
- 1 × 15A AFCI breaker
- 8 × 15A standard breakers
- 1 × 60A standard breaker
- AFCI readiness: As more inspectors adopt NEC 2020, certain living-area circuits require AFCI protection. We added AFCI where needed and verified circuits for conditions (like shared neutrals) that can cause nuisance tripping, advising the homeowner on any recommendations for remediation.
- Temporary power during work: To minimize disruption, we provided limited generator power while the main service was offline.
- Fixture installation: We installed a customer-supplied light/ceiling fan on an existing, approved box and circuit.
Built to today’s code
Safety and compliance were top priorities. Our team ensured correct grounding and bonding, tidy conductor management, and accurate circuit labeling. Where applicable, we recommended AFCI upgrades consistent with current code practices. The result is a cleaner, safer panel layout that simplifies future maintenance and helps protect the home’s electrical system in Seven Lakes.
Benefits for the homeowner
- More capacity and reliability: A modern 200A panel supports today’s and tomorrow’s loads—EVs, heat pumps, kitchen upgrades, and more.
- Appliance and electronics protection: The whole-home surge protector helps extend the life of sensitive equipment by diverting damaging surges safely to ground.
- Peace of mind: Transferable panel warranty and our craftsmanship warranty add long-term confidence and value.
- Clear organization: Professionally labeled circuits and code-compliant wiring make troubleshooting and future projects easier.
