Project overview
Our Raleigh team completed a 200-amp main electrical panel replacement with whole-home surge protection for Randy Hall in Cary, NC. This Panels & Service Upgrades project, led by technicians Scottie Harris and Brad Williams, was completed on August 11, 2026, and included permitting and coordination of inspection for a safe, code-compliant upgrade.
Scope of work
- Permit & inspection: Pulled the required electrical permit and coordinated inspection for compliance with current code.
- Main panel replacement (200A, indoor): Installed a new aluminum-bus main lug panel, brought the installation up to current electrical standards, reconnected the service entrance conductors, and reconnected existing branch circuits. All circuits were clearly labeled, and the panel was properly grounded and bonded.
- Whole-home surge protection: Integrated a surge protective device with a $10,000/3-year warranty to help safeguard appliances and sensitive electronics from power surges.
- Breaker installations:
- 3 × 30A standard double-pole breakers (typical for equipment such as dryers, water heaters, AC condensers, spas, or EV chargers)
- 7 × 20A standard breakers for small-appliance and general-use circuits
- 5 × 15A standard breakers for lighting and standard branch circuits (including bathroom lighting per 2020 code)
- 1 × 20A standard double-pole breaker
- Grounding upgrade: Installed new ground rods and ran the grounding electrode conductor to the main service panel with secure, listed connections (up to 25 ft run as needed).
- Temporary power planning: Power was safely disconnected for the changeout, with a generator available for limited use during the outage.
- On-site support: An electrical assistant supported the crew to maintain efficiency and safety.
Warranties and protections
This Electrical Panel Upgrade includes our Signature Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty on installation. The new panel features a 20-year transferable warranty, and the whole-home surge protector carries a $10K/3-year warranty for added peace of mind.
