Project overview
On June 30, 2026, Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh team completed a 200-amp main electrical panel replacement with whole-home surge protection for homeowner Janier Duran in Cary, NC. Our licensed technicians, Gray Gorrell and Brad Williams, brought the service up to current code, coordinated permitting and inspection, and delivered a clean, clearly labeled installation ready for the demands of a modern home.
This project is part of our Panels & Service Upgrades service category, with a focus on safe, code-compliant Electrical Panel Upgrades for Cary-area homeowners.
What we upgraded
- Pulled permit and coordinated the required inspection with the local authority.
- Replaced the main service panel with a 200A indoor, aluminum-bus panel and brought the installation to current electrical code.
- Grounded and bonded the new panel, reconnected the service entrance conductors, and reconnected existing branch circuits.
- Labeled the new panel for clear identification of circuits and safer maintenance moving forward.
- Installed a whole-home surge protection system backed by a $10,000 / 3-year warranty for added protection against damaging voltage spikes.
- Installed standard breakers to support key home systems and branch circuits:
- 1 × 50A standard breaker (range, heater/furnace, small subpanel, or EV charger)
- 2 × 40A standard breakers (dryer, water heater, air condenser, spa, or EV charger)
- 1 × 30A double-pole standard breaker (dryer, water heater, air condenser, spa, or EV charger)
- 5 × 20A standard breakers (small appliance circuits)
- 13 × 15A standard breakers (lighting and standard branch circuits)
- Outage planning: Power was safely disconnected during the panel changeout, with a temporary generator option available for limited power needs.
Code readiness, safety, and AFCI considerations
The new panel is AFCI-ready to align with NEC 2020 requirements that inspectors increasingly enforce. If an inspector requires AFCI breaker upgrades on specific circuits, our team can assist with any needed diagnostics to resolve legacy wiring issues (such as shared neutrals) that can cause nuisance tripping when AFCI protection is introduced.
Bringing the service up to code, improving grounding and bonding, and clearly organizing and labeling circuits all contribute to better reliability, easier troubleshooting, and improved household safety.
Warranties and workmanship
- 20-year transferable warranty on the aluminum-bus main panel.
- $10,000 / 3-year whole-home surge protection coverage.
- Signature Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty included with the installation.
These protections reflect our commitment to long-term safety and value for Cary homeowners who depend on their electrical systems every day.
