200A Electrical Panel Upgrade and Whole-Home Protection in Charlotte, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team (Matthews branch) completed a comprehensive electrical upgrade for GJK Remodeling, LLC in Charlotte. Led by technician Ben Lively and completed on May 30, 2025, this project focused on a safe, code-compliant 200-amp service upgrade, new grounding, and whole-house surge protection. We also added new dedicated circuits, updated lighting, and refreshed outlets and switches to support a busy remodel and long-term reliability.

Project Highlights

  • 200A interior main panel upgrade: Installed a modern 200-amp panel with properly sized feeder conductors and new breakers, labeled and organized for future serviceability.
  • New grounding system: Drove new ground electrode(s), bonded and connected grounding conductors to bring the service up to current code standards.
  • Whole-home surge protection: Added a surge protective device at the main panel to help safeguard sensitive electronics and appliances from power spikes.
  • Dedicated laundry and appliance circuits: Provided new 20A and 30A home runs where needed, including support for a microwave and other kitchen loads.
  • Bathroom code updates: Installed a new 20A GFCI-protected home run to all bathroom receptacles and integrated customer-supplied bath fans with lighting.
  • Lighting upgrades and device refresh: Installed 21 wafer can lights, relocated a ceiling fan/light box to center the room, and set three pendants over the kitchen sink for balanced task lighting.
  • Fixture installations: Hung a foyer chandelier (high-ceiling application), a dining room chandelier, multiple customer-supplied ceiling lights/fans, and a vanity light.
  • Receptacles, switches, and specialty outlets: Replaced and upgraded standard and GFCI devices, added outlets in new wall and knee wall locations, and installed specialty receptacles as required.
