Project overview in Mint Hill, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Matthews branch completed a comprehensive 200A electrical panel upgrade with a compact indoor subpanel for homeowner Jun Park in Mint Hill, NC. Led by technician Christian Cedillos, the work was finalized on September 13, 2025, by our Charlotte team. This project falls under our Panels & Service Upgrades and Electrical Panel Upgrades services and was designed to improve safety, capacity, and future-readiness for high-demand appliances and equipment.

Following the installation, Jun Park praised our team with a positive review of the project.

What we installed

  • 200A Outdoor Main Panel (Aluminum): We replaced the existing panel and brought it to current electrical code, grounded and bonded the panel, reconnected the service entrance conductors, and tied in existing circuits. All circuits were clearly labeled for easy identification. The upgrade included whole-home surge protection, permitting, and inspection. During the scheduled outage, we made a generator available for limited power so essential needs could be met.
  • Small Indoor Subpanel (4/8, up to 125A): Added capacity for future circuits such as garage, workshop, pool, or spa loads. This subpanel provides a convenient distribution point and room to grow.
  • New 240V Circuit Wiring: Pulled approximately 23 feet of 6/3 NM-B Romex to support 50‑amp 240V circuits for larger appliances and high‑power equipment. Junction box included as needed for a clean, code-compliant run.
  • New Breakers Installed: One 30A double-pole, two 50A, and one 60A breaker to support loads such as a dryer, range, small subpanel, HVAC, EV charging, or similar dedicated equipment.

Why this upgrade matters

  • Safety and code compliance: Grounding, bonding, and correct labeling reduce hazards and simplify maintenance or emergency shutoffs.
  • Greater capacity and flexibility: A 200A main panel with a dedicated subpanel accommodates today’s high-demand appliances and tomorrow’s additions.
  • Cleaner, more reliable power: Integrated surge protection helps safeguard sensitive electronics and major appliances from damaging voltage spikes.
  • EV- and appliance-ready: Properly sized 240V breakers and 6/3 NM‑B circuits set the stage for EV chargers, workshop tools, and other heavy loads.

Inspection and code notes for Mint Hill homeowners

As inspectors continue implementing newer NEC requirements, some homes may be asked to upgrade certain circuits to AFCI protection. In rare cases, installing AFCI breakers can reveal preexisting wiring conditions—such as shared neutrals—that cause immediate tripping. When that happens, additional diagnostics may be required to isolate and correct the issue. Our team communicates options clearly so you can make informed decisions during inspection.

PowerCare Membership added for ongoing protection

To keep the new equipment operating at its best, this homeowner enrolled in our PowerCare Membership, which includes:

  • Lifetime craftsmanship warranty on our work.
  • Complimentary yearly safety check covering key electrical safety devices, the main service equipment, and GFCI/disconnect testing.
  • Annual panel tune-up with re-torqued lugs, fresh antioxidant on aluminum conductors, voltage variance testing, panel cleaning, and resealing penetrations.
  • Priority help when you need it with the dispatch fee waived for concerns during membership.
  • Member savings on qualifying electrical projects.
