Completed 200A Panel Upgrade and Meter Base in Pittsboro, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh branch completed a comprehensive 200-amp service enhancement for homeowner Elizabeth Emery in Pittsboro, NC. On August 29, 2024, our technician Cody Perry upgraded the home’s electrical capacity with a new outdoor-rated aluminum-bus main panel, a matching 200A meter base, updated grounding, and whole-home surge protection. The project was fully permitted and inspected for code compliance.

Scope of Work

  • Main Panel – 200A Aluminum (Outdoor): Brought the system up to current electrical code, replaced the existing panel and main lugs, labeled all circuits, and completed full grounding and bonding. Reconnected the service entrance conductors and all existing branch circuits.
  • New Breakers Installed:
    • Two 100A 2-pole breakers for subpanels
    • One 40A standard breaker (typical for loads like dryers, water heaters, A/C condensers, spas, or EV chargers)
    • One 15A standard breaker for bathroom lighting and standard branch circuits
  • Service Entrance Cable: Installed approximately 60 ft of SER #2 (4-wire) to support the upgraded service configuration.
  • 200A Meter Base Upgrade: Coordinated the utility power drop, pulled permits, installed the new meter base, ran conduit to the weatherhead, updated the drip loop, and installed ground rods with grounding electrode conductors.
  • Surge Protection: Integrated a whole-home surge protector with a $10,000 warranty component for added protection of household electronics and appliances.

Power was briefly disconnected to complete the work. A generator was available for limited power use during the outage upon request.

Code-Compliant, Inspected, and Ready for Future Loads

This 200A service and panel upgrade prepares the home for present and future electrical needs while prioritizing safety and reliability. The new equipment meets the latest code requirements and was finalized with inspection approval. With added capacity and modern protection, the home is better equipped for high-demand appliances, remodeling projects, and future additions such as EV charging or HVAC upgrades.

Quality, Protection, and Warranty

The outdoor-rated aluminum-bus panel and professional-grade components were selected for dependable performance. The installation includes a 20-year transferable panel warranty and a whole-home surge protector with a $10,000 warranty element, providing extra peace of mind against unexpected electrical surges.
