Project overview: 200A electrical panel upgrade and EV charger installation in Charlotte
Our Charlotte team completed a comprehensive electrical upgrade for homeowner Joshua Dyer in Charlotte, NC. On 2024-05-03, technicians Danny Bishop, Ben Lively, Cody Moyers, and Brian Cain upgraded the interior main service panel to 200 amps, hardwired a Level 2 EV charger, added multiple GFCI-protected outlets, and installed a wireless smoke/CO detection system. All work was permitted in Charlotte and performed by our local crew serving the area from our Matthews branch.
Scope of work
- New 200A interior main panel: Furnished and installed a code-compliant indoor panel in the garage. We grounded and bonded the panel, labeled circuits, reconnected the service entrance conductors, and safely re-terminated all existing branch circuits. Appropriate standard breakers were installed and organized for long-term reliability.
- Level 2 EV charger, hardwired: The charger was mounted left of the new panel and hardwired with a dedicated circuit. Our team removed the unit from the customer’s previous residence and reinstalled it at the new home, including the correct breaker and appropriate feeder length for a clean, efficient setup.
- GFCI protection added (4 locations): We supplied and installed GFCI outlets in the kitchen, bathroom, garage, and porch to bring these moisture-prone areas in line with current safety standards.
- Wireless smoke and CO detection: Installed a whole-home battery-powered system with four smoke detectors and two combination smoke/CO detectors for comprehensive life-safety coverage.
- Permitting and inspection coordination: Touchstone Electric pulled the electrical permit required for this project and coordinated the local inspection process in Charlotte.
- Ongoing safety membership: The customer enrolled in our Gold-level home safety membership for periodic checks on smoke/CO detectors, panel condition, and general electrical safety.
