Our Hendersonville branch completed a comprehensive panel and breaker upgrade for Cabin Fever in Saluda, NC. On 2024-06-06, technician Theo Coetsee replaced both the indoor and outdoor 200-amp main panels, modernized the system to current code, added whole-home surge protection, and performed a detailed panel rejuvenation. All work was permitted and scheduled for inspection to ensure a safe, long-lasting result.

Scope of Work

  • Main Panel – 200A (indoor): Replaced the aluminum main panel, grounded and bonded the cabinet, reconnected the service entrance conductors, and reconnected existing branch circuits. The new panel was clearly labeled for quick identification.
  • Main Panel – 200A (outdoor): Replaced the exterior aluminum main panel and completed full grounding, bonding, reconnection, and labeling to meet current safety practices.
  • Whole-Home Surge Protection: Installed a surge protector included with the panel package to help defend sensitive electronics and appliances from power surges.
  • Breaker Upgrades and Additions:
    • 6 × 15A standard breakers – bathroom lighting (aligned with 2020 code requirements) and general lighting circuits
    • 4 × 20A standard breakers – small appliance circuits
    • 4 × 40A standard breakers – suitable for equipment like water heaters, air condensers, spas, EV chargers, etc.
    • 1 × 30A double-pole breaker – typical for dryers, water heaters, air condensers, spas, or EV chargers
    • 1 × 50A standard breaker – common for ranges, furnaces/heaters, small subpanels, or EV chargers
  • Panel Rejuvenation: Vacuumed and cleaned the panel interiors, re-tensioned all accessible terminations (ground lugs, bus bars, main breaker), confirmed proper separation of neutrals and grounds with one conductor per lug, inspected for water intrusion and sealed openings, verified service voltage, applied antioxidant to conductors as needed, and function-tested AFCI/GFCI breakers with customer consent.
  • Custom Wiring: Completed extensive wiring tasks throughout the cabin to support the upgraded electrical system.
  • Permitting and Inspection: Obtained required permits and coordinated inspection. During the scheduled outage, a generator was available for limited power use.
