Our Raleigh branch completed a comprehensive 200A electrical panel upgrade and full breaker replacement for homeowner Cherie Ochsenfeld on October 8, 2025. Led by Cody Perry, the project modernized the home’s electrical system to current code, added four dedicated outlets upstairs, and protected the property with a whole-house surge protector. The work was permitted and inspected through the City of Raleigh for safety and compliance.
What we upgraded and installed
- 200A main panel (indoor, aluminum bus): Replaced the existing panel, grounded and bonded, reconnected the service entrance and all branch circuits, and provided clear circuit labeling. The upgrade includes permitting and inspection.
- Complete breaker refresh: Every breaker in the home was replaced with code-appropriate AFCI, GFCI, and standard types to enhance protection and reliability throughout the residence.
- Four new dedicated outlets upstairs: Added dedicated circuits for reliable power where it’s needed most, including the master bedroom and a workbench area. Our team fished wires through finished walls and installed new NM-B 12/2 cabling to keep the install neat and minimally invasive.
- Whole-house surge protection: Installed a surge protective device at the main panel to help shield the home from voltage spikes due to lightning and utility fluctuations, adding an extra layer of defense for sensitive electronics and appliances.
- Safety testing and diagnostics: Performed system testing, labeling, and diagnostics to verify proper operation and identify any preexisting circuit conditions.
Note: When AFCI protection is added to older wiring, preexisting conditions such as shared neutrals can cause nuisance tripping and may require additional diagnosis and correction.

Supporting materials included new NM-B 12/2 cable runs and precise wire fishing through tight spaces to preserve finishes while delivering dedicated power where requested.

The whole-home surge protector provides robust defense against transient voltage spikes from storms and utility events, helping extend the lifespan of everyday electronics and major appliances.
