Project overview
Touchstone Electric completed a 200-amp electrical panel upgrade and breaker installation for Angela Goldberg in Jamestown, NC. Led by technician Christian Cedillos from our Charlotte branch (based in Matthews), this code-compliant service was finished on August 12, 2024 and included permitting and a final inspection for full peace of mind.
This Panels & Service Upgrades project focused on modernizing the home’s main distribution equipment, enhancing protection with whole-home surge suppression, and ensuring that critical branch circuits meet current standards.
Scope of work performed
- Replaced the indoor 200A aluminum main panel and brought the installation up to current electrical code.
- Installed a new main lug and labeled all circuits for clarity and future service.
- Grounded and bonded the panel to improve fault protection and overall safety.
- Reconnected the service entrance cable and tied in existing circuits after verification.
- Added a whole-home surge protector that includes a $10,000 warranty for covered surge events.
- Installed new breakers where needed:
- 6 × 15A standard breakers for bathroom lights and standard branch circuits.
- 5 × 20A standard breakers for small-appliance circuits.
- 2 × 30A double-pole breakers for dedicated loads such as a dryer, water heater, air condenser, spa, or EV charger.
- Added 2-inch PVC conduit with appropriate connectors and LBs as applicable to protect conductors and support clean routing.
- Installed SER 4/0 four-wire service entrance cable as required between the meter and main panel or main to subpanel.
- Permit and inspection included and coordinated by our team.
Note: The standard main panel package does not include a separate service disconnect, feeder, or meter upgrade unless specified. For this Jamestown project, the required breakers were added as separate line items.
Code-compliant safety upgrades
Grounding and bonding were verified and upgraded to align with current North Carolina electrical code. Circuits were neatly organized, clearly labeled, and reconnected with proper torqueing and terminations. Bathroom lighting and other standard branch circuits were addressed with the appropriate breakers to meet modern code expectations.
The result is a safer, more reliable electrical system with improved fault clearing, better surge resilience, and simplified maintenance for any future electrical needs.
Permits, inspection, and temporary power
Touchstone Electric handled all permitting and coordinated the final inspection to ensure the installation met all local requirements in Jamestown, NC. During the outage required for the panel swap, we made a generator option available for limited power, helping minimize disruption while work was completed.
