Touchstone Electric recently completed a 200A outdoor main electrical panel upgrade and new breaker installation for homeowner Fred Brackett in Concord, NC. Led by technician Christian Cedillos from our Charlotte branch, this Panels & Service Upgrades project (Electrical Panel Upgrades) was finished on December 12, 2024 and brought the home’s service equipment up to current safety and code standards.
What we upgraded in Concord, NC
Our Matthews-based team serving Concord removed the aging equipment and installed a new 200-amp outdoor aluminum main panel designed for reliable performance and ease of maintenance. To deliver a safe, code-compliant result, we completed:
- Replacement of the existing panel and main lug, with clear circuit labeling for future reference
- Complete grounding and bonding to current electrical code
- Reconnection of the service entrance cable and all existing circuits
- Installation of whole-home surge protection to help safeguard sensitive electronics
- Permitting and coordination of the final inspection with the local authority
- Temporary power support: a generator was made available for limited power during the outage
The new panel includes a 20-year transferrable panel warranty, adding long-term value for Fred and any future homeowners.
New breakers installed for essential circuits
With the upgraded service equipment in place, we installed the following breakers to support present and future loads throughout the home:
- (2) 60A Standard Breakers – Ideal for larger loads like ranges, heaters/furnaces, small subpanels, or EV chargers
- (2) 40A Standard Breakers – Commonly used for dryers, water heaters, air condensers, spas, or EV charging circuits
- (1) 20A GFCI Breaker – Provides enhanced protection for bathroom, laundry, garage, exterior, crawlspace, or basement receptacles
Each circuit was tested and labeled, helping ensure dependable performance and easier servicing down the road.
Built for safety and code compliance
Grounding and bonding are critical to modern electrical safety. Our team ensured the service equipment in this Concord home meets current requirements and operates with proper fault-clearing capability. As local inspectors implement the 2020 NEC, some homes may be required to add or convert certain breakers to AFCI protection. When that occurs, Touchstone Electric provides clear guidance and troubleshooting so homeowners understand options and next steps.
