Project overview: 200A main panel replacement and surge protection in Raleigh
Our Raleigh team completed a comprehensive electrical panel upgrade for homeowner David Schneider. On November 21, 2025, lead technician Francisco Martinez replaced the aging main service panel with a new 200-amp indoor panel, brought the installation up to current electrical code, and added whole-home surge protection for enhanced reliability and safety.

What we did on this Raleigh, NC panel upgrade
- Pulled permit and coordinated inspection: All work performed to current code with an official inspection scheduled and passed per city requirements.
- Replaced the main electrical panel (200A, indoor, aluminum bus): Grounded and bonded the panel, reconnected the service entrance conductors, reconnected existing branch circuits, and provided clear circuit labeling.
- Installed whole-home surge protection: A $10,000 (3-year) surge protection system to help safeguard sensitive electronics and major appliances from power surges.
- Breaker updates and additions:
- 2 × 50A standard breakers
- 1 × 60A standard breaker
- 1 × 30A standard (double-pole) breaker
- 11 × 20A standard breakers
- 12 × 15A standard breakers
- 3 × 15A AFCI breakers where required by code
- Limited-power planning during outage: Power was safely disconnected during the panel swap; our service includes making a temporary generator available for limited power needs during the outage.

Code and safety upgrades for peace of mind
As part of bringing the home up to current electrical standards, our electrician ensured proper grounding and bonding, tidy wire management, and accurate circuit labeling. Where applicable under current code adoption, AFCI protection was added to help reduce risks associated with arcing faults on lighting and receptacle circuits.
