200A Electrical Panel Replacement and Surge Protection in Haw River, NC

Our Raleigh branch completed a permitted and inspected 200-amp electrical panel replacement and whole-home surge protection upgrade for DJ Staley in Haw River, NC. Led by technician Francisco Martinez, this turnkey project modernized the home’s power distribution, increased capacity, and added robust protection against damaging power surges. The installation is backed by our Signature Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty.

Completion date: April 1, 2026

Scope of Work

  • Permit and inspection: We handled all permitting and coordinated inspection to ensure full compliance with local and national electrical codes.
  • Main electrical panel replacement (200A, aluminum bus): Installed a new indoor 200-amp panel featuring an aluminum bus bar with a 20-year transferable manufacturer warranty. The panel was brought to current code, properly grounded and bonded, labeled, and all existing branch circuits and the service-entrance conductors were reconnected.
  • Whole-home surge protection: Added a panel-mounted surge protective device with $50,000 of coverage for 10 years to help safeguard appliances and electronics from lightning-related surges, utility fluctuations, and everyday voltage spikes.
  • Breaker updates and labeling: Installed and labeled new breakers to match the home’s loads:
    • 1× 50A standard (range, furnace/heater, EV charger, or small subpanel)
    • 2× 30A double-pole (dryer, water heater, air condenser, spa, or EV charger)
    • 6× 20A standard (small appliance/general-purpose circuits)
    • 2× 15A standard (lighting and standard branch circuits)
    • 1× 20A double-pole (small appliance or specialty load)
    • 1× 80A standard (range, furnace/heater, or small subpanel)

As inspectors across the region continue to adopt the 2020 NEC, some existing circuits may be required to use AFCI breakers. Where needed, we advise homeowners on code-driven updates and help address preexisting wiring conditions—such as shared neutrals—that can cause nuisance tripping when AFCI protection is introduced.

Why This Upgrade Matters

  • Safety and code compliance: A new, properly grounded and bonded 200-amp panel reduces overheating risks, corrects outdated wiring practices, and aligns with the latest inspection standards.
  • Capacity for today’s loads: Additional and right-sized breakers support modern appliances, HVAC equipment, and future additions like EV charging or a workshop.
  • Surge protection for your investment: The whole-home surge protector helps defend sensitive electronics and major appliances from destructive voltage spikes, extending equipment life and reducing downtime.
  • Documented warranties: The aluminum-bus panel includes a 20-year transferable warranty, and the surge protector offers 10 years of coverage up to $50,000 on covered equipment.
