Completed 200A Electrical Panel & Meter Upgrade in Charlotte, NC

Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team, operating from our Matthews branch, completed a comprehensive 200-amp service upgrade for Native Contracting in Charlotte, NC on April 30, 2026. This project included a new 200A meter base combo, an indoor 200A main panel with new breakers, a robust grounding system, whole-home surge protection, dedicated circuits, lighting upgrades, and new interior/exterior outlets.

Scope of Work

  • 200A meter/panel combo (feed-through) installed and supplied, including coordination of the utility power drop, permitting, and inspection management.
  • Indoor 200A main panel installed and brought up to current code: bonding and grounding completed, existing circuits reconnected, and panel directory clearly labeled.
  • New breakers supplied and installed to match load requirements and circuit applications.
  • Grounding system upgraded with new grounding electrode conductors and ground rods for a low-impedance path to earth.
  • Whole-home surge protection installed at the service equipment to help guard sensitive electronics and appliances.
  • Two floor outlets added in the living room for clean, convenient power without extension cords.
  • Outdoor outlets added at the front and back of the home using weather-appropriate devices and enclosures.
  • New dedicated circuit for a tankless water heater to support the appliance’s high continuous load.
  • HVAC line relocation coordinated to maintain proper clearances and streamline the electrical layout.
  • Lighting upgrades: 12 new can lights supplied and installed, with final can and switch layout coordinated during the rough walk-through.
  • Bathroom ventilation: new bath exhaust fan supplied and installed for improved moisture control.
  • New construction rough-in per stamped plans, including branch circuits for kitchen, laundry, dining, and bathrooms; appliance wiring (range, cooktop, microwave, dishwasher, disposal, washer, dryer); device wiring for outlets, lights, and switches; and panel labeling.
  • SER 4/0 feeder installed from the main panel to a subpanel to ensure proper capacity and code-compliant conductor sizing.
  • Panel relocation performed as part of the upgrade to optimize accessibility and clearances.

Code Compliance and Safety

All work was completed to current NEC and local Charlotte-Mecklenburg requirements. Our team handled permitting, coordination with the power provider, and inspection scheduling. Where required by the inspector, circuits were configured for AFCI/GFCI protection to meet modern safety standards.

This upgrade enhances system safety, improves fault protection, and provides a clean, organized service area that’s accessible for future maintenance or expansion.

Results for the Home

  • Reliable 200-amp capacity and modern overcurrent protection.
  • Cleaner power with whole-home surge protection at the service entrance.
  • Dedicated high-demand circuits for appliances like the tankless water heater.
  • Better lighting and ventilation through new can lights and a bath fan.
  • Convenient power access with new living room floor outlets and exterior receptacles.
  • Future-ready infrastructure with properly sized feeders and labeled panels.
