On July 11, 2024, our Charlotte team from the Matthews branch completed a comprehensive 200A electrical panel and meter base upgrade for homeowner Yin Ng in Indian Trail, NC. This outdoor main panel replacement was brought to current electrical code, fully grounded and bonded, and clearly labeled for future service. We reconnected the service entrance conductors and all existing circuits to deliver a clean, organized, and reliable power distribution setup for the home.
What We Upgraded
- Main Panel – 200A Aluminum (Outdoor): Replaced the panel and main lugs, updated grounding and bonding, reconnected existing circuits, and labeled the new panel for clarity. A whole-home surge protector with a $25,000 connected equipment warranty was installed to protect sensitive electronics. All work included permitting and inspection.
- New Breakers Installed:
- 8 × 15A standard breakers for lighting and standard circuits (including updates consistent with 2020 bathroom lighting/safety requirements)
- 8 × 20A standard breakers for small appliance and general-use circuits
- 1 × 30A standard double-pole for medium-duty loads (e.g., dryer, water heater, AC condenser, spa, EV charger)
- 1 × 50A standard breaker for heavy-duty loads (e.g., range, furnace, small subpanel, EV charger)
- 200A Meter Base Replacement: Coordinated the utility power drop, installed the new meter base, ran conduit to the weatherhead, extended the service entrance cable to the drip loop, and upgraded grounding with ground rods and grounding electrode conductors.
To minimize disruption during the outage, we made a generator option available for limited power needs while work was performed.
