200A Copper Main Panel Upgrade in Greer: Project Overview
Touchstone Electric’s Greenville team, operating from our Taylors branch, completed a comprehensive main service upgrade in Greer for customer Graham Rogers on July 31, 2026. Technicians Tyler Harris and Johann Fischer replaced an aging outdoor main panel with a new 40‑space, 200‑amp copper panel to correct issues identified during a safety inspection. Because the new panel is meter-adjacent, the work required the meter to be pulled during the upgrade.
Challenging access conditions under the deck meant the crawlspace ended before our desired pathway. We installed new PVC conduit and flexible raceway to route wiring cleanly and safely to the panel’s location, ensuring a durable, code-compliant installation tailored to the home’s layout.
What We Upgraded and Installed
- New 200A copper outdoor main panel (40 spaces): Grounded and bonded, labeled, and organized to current standards.
- Surge protection: Whole-home surge protection was included with the panel upgrade.
- Conduit and conductors: Approximately 60 ft of 3/4" PVC conduit with fittings and LBs, plus THHN #6 conductors and SEU #6 cable where appropriate for designated circuits.
- Breaker upgrades:
- (10) 15A standard breakers for lighting and general-use circuits
- (12) 20A standard breakers for small appliance circuits
- (3) 30A double-pole breakers for equipment loads
- (1) 50A standard breaker and (1) 50A GFCI breaker
- (1) 60A standard breaker for a higher-demand circuit
- Appliance connection: Installed the receptacle or hard-wired a customer-supplied major appliance during the visit, as specified.
All terminations were made with proper torqueing practices, and circuits were clearly identified to make future service straightforward.
Permitting and Inspection in Greer
Our team filed the electrical permit with the county for this project and coordinated for the required inspection. Please note that this permit covers electrical work only; if a project requires other jurisdictional permits (such as zoning, septic, historic preservation, or builder/general permits), those are separate from electrical permitting. If additional non-electrical permits are needed, we provide guidance and, upon request, pricing to help process those with the appropriate authorities.
Code and Safety Considerations
We bring panel replacements into alignment with current code expectations in the Greer area, including proper grounding/bonding, conductor sizing, and required GFCI protection where applicable. As local inspectors implement newer editions of the NEC, some projects may call for specialty breakers (such as AFCI) on certain circuits. If an inspector requires additional upgrades, we document the requirement and outline next steps to ensure compliance.
