200 Amp Service Upgrade and New Construction Wiring in Taylors, SC

Touchstone Electric’s Greenville branch completed a full 200 amp underground service upgrade, panel and meter relocation, and complete rough-in and trim wiring for a 1,300 sq ft home addition in Taylors, SC. Led by our licensed technicians, Tyler Harris and Bradley Blackwelder, this project was wrapped up on April 25, 2025 and delivered to current NEC 2020 standards with all required inspections.

Project Overview

Because a new addition was being built, the existing electrical service, meter base, and main panel were relocated to meet utility clearances and layout requirements. We installed a code-compliant 200A underground service and provided complete electrical wiring for the addition from rough-in through final trim-out. The homeowner supplied lights and stamped electrical plans, which we followed throughout the project.

  • Service and Meter Work: Installed a new 200A meter base and service conductors with required conduit and fittings; provided grounding upgrades with dual ground rods and GEC; coordinated placement and utility requirements for a clean, compliant installation.
  • Main Panel: Installed one 40/80-circuit 200A load center, labeled all circuits, and ran the feeder from the meter to the panel. A code-required main disconnect was included for ready access and safety.
  • Whole-Home Surge Protection: Added a whole-home surge protective device per NEC 2020 to help safeguard sensitive electronics and major appliances.
  • Relocation Details: The panel relocation did not include drywall repair; patching was coordinated by others per homeowner preference.
  • Permitting and Inspections: Pulled the electrical permit and coordinated rough and final electrical inspections with the local authority.

Rough-In Wiring for the 1,300 sq ft Addition

All rough wiring was completed according to the stamped plans and NEC 2020, including branch circuits, device box placement, and specialty circuits for appliances and HVAC.

  • Interlinking wire for smoke detection throughout the addition
  • Dedicated circuits for bathroom vent fans and HVAC equipment
  • Kitchen circuits: two 20A small-appliance circuits with GFCI protection and AFCI where required
  • Dedicated 20A circuits for laundry, dining room, and bathrooms with appropriate GFCI/AFCI protection
  • Appliance wiring: disposal, dishwasher, range/cooktop, microwave, and dryer
  • Outlets, lights, and switches installed to plan and code
  • 40 ft of SER 4/0 four-wire feeder from the main panel to a subpanel where required by design

Note: As inspectors continue adopting NEC 2020, some existing circuits may require AFCI breakers. Older wiring methods (such as shared neutrals) can cause nuisance tripping and may require diagnostic time to correct.

Trim-Out and Finalization

After the rough inspection passed, our team completed trim work and final connections, then prepared the system for the final electrical inspection.

  • Installed and supplied required smoke detectors; provided five battery-powered Smoke/CO combo units to supplement protection
  • Connected bathroom vent fans and installed disconnects for HVAC and other major appliances
  • Hooked up homeowner-supplied fixtures and appliances per plan
  • Verified labeling, tested GFCI/AFCI and surge protection, and documented final readings

Any additions beyond the original stamped plans are handled through a change order to keep scope and costs transparent.
