Project overview
On July 16, 2026, our Raleigh team completed a permitted 200-amp electrical service and panel upgrade for homeowner Gene Harris in Roxboro, NC. The scope included a new meter/panel combo, a 200A main panel with an aluminum bus, multiple breaker replacements, fresh wiring for major appliances, and whole-home surge protection backed by a $50,000, 10-year warranty. Work was performed by technicians Gray Gorrell, Francisco Martinez, and Eric Myers.
This project falls under our Panels & Service Upgrades and Electrical Panel Upgrades services and was delivered by the Touchstone Electric Raleigh branch serving the Roxboro area.
What we upgraded
- Permitting & coordination: Pulled the electrical permit and coordinated the utility power drop/reconnect to minimize downtime.
- Meter/panel combo (200A, over/under with feed-through lugs): Installed new service equipment, added ground rods with grounding electrode conductors, and ensured proper labeling and bonding.
- Main electrical panel replacement (200A, aluminum bus): Replaced the aging panel, reconnected existing circuits, updated grounding/bonding, and delivered a clean, clearly labeled layout. The aluminum-bus panel includes a 20-year transferable manufacturer warranty.
- Service riser with weatherhead: Installed IMC conduit, straps, roof boot, and new service entrance cable up to the weatherhead for a durable, code-compliant mast.
- Whole-home surge protection: Added a panel-mounted SPD with a $50,000, 10-year warranty for comprehensive protection against damaging voltage spikes.
- Appliance circuits: Replaced and properly sized the dryer and range circuits using new NM-B 10/3 and 6/3 cable. Installed 4/0 SER where needed to support the upgraded service.
- Outage planning: Scheduled the work window and made a temporary generator available for limited power use during the upgrade.
Breaker replacements and circuit improvements
To match the new service and enhance reliability, our electricians replaced and organized multiple breakers, supporting both large appliances and general-use circuits:
- 1× 60A breaker for high-demand equipment
- 1× 50A breaker for a range or similar loads
- 3× 30A (double-pole) breakers for a dryer, water heater, or A/C
- 3× 20A standard breakers for small-appliance and lighting circuits
- 3× 20A (double-pole) breakers for 240V small-appliance loads
- 8× 15A breakers for general branch circuits and bathroom lighting
Every circuit was neatly labeled to simplify future maintenance and troubleshooting.
Surge protection that safeguards your home
Lightning events, utility switching, and everyday equipment cycling can send harmful voltage spikes through a home’s wiring. The installed whole-home surge protector diverts excess voltage to ground before it reaches sensitive electronics and appliances—helping extend their lifespan and reduce surprise failures. This SPD includes a $50,000, 10-year warranty for added peace of mind.
Code, safety, and craftsmanship
The new service was brought into alignment with current electrical code, with particular attention to grounding, bonding, clear labeling, and a tidy, professional installation. Where required by the authority having jurisdiction, AFCI/GFCI protections are addressed during inspection. As with all of our upgrades, this project included our Signature Lifetime Craftsmanship Warranty for long-term confidence.
