On December 14, 2023, our Charlotte team completed a comprehensive 200 amp electrical service upgrade for homeowner Ariel Contreras. This project, managed by our Matthews branch, modernized the home’s power capacity, improved safety, and prepared the electrical system for present and future demand.

Scope of Work Completed
- 200A Meter/Panel with Riser: Furnished and installed a new 200 amp meter/panel on the exterior with a new service riser, service disconnect, and up to 25 feet of service conductors as required.
- 125A Subpanel (Storage Room): Installed a new subpanel to organize circuits and provide room for expansion.
- Whole-Home Surge Protection: Integrated a surge protective device to help safeguard sensitive electronics and appliances from voltage spikes.
- Grounding System: Installed two ground rods and completed bonding to meet local code and enhance fault protection.
- Hardwired Life-Safety Devices: Furnished and installed three hardwired smoke detectors plus one hardwired combination smoke/CO unit, creating an interconnected safety network.
To maintain proper working clearances, this project required the water heater to be relocated away from the electrical panel area before work could proceed.
Permits, Inspection, and Safety
As with all Panels & Service Upgrades and Electrical Panel Upgrades, we handled permitting and coordinated the required inspection. Our team followed current electrical codes, verified proper grounding and bonding, clearly labeled circuits, and performed comprehensive testing before restoration of power.
During the necessary utility disconnect for the service change, we planned for a safe and efficient outage window. Temporary power options can be arranged on request to minimize disruption.
