200 Amp Electrical Service and Panel Upgrade in Montreat, NC

On April 11, 2025, Touchstone Electric completed a new-construction 200 amp electrical service and panel upgrade for Ember House Holdings LLC in Montreat, NC. Working from stamped, customer-provided electrical plans and following the current National Electrical Code (NEC), our crew delivered a safe, well-organized installation tailored to the home’s loads and future needs.

This project was completed by technicians Tony Delatorre, Anthony Garcia, Bradley Blackwelder, Robert Sloan, and Chris Rogers. Our Hendersonville branch serves Montreat and the surrounding area, with support from our Charlotte business unit for larger projects and specialized panel upgrade work.

Work Completed to NEC Standards

  • 200A service and meter: Installed new 200 amp meter with conduit, riser, and service-entrance cable from meter to the weatherhead and drip loop.
  • 200A main electrical panel: Set a 40/80-position, 200A panel with a properly sized feeder from meter to panel, and provided clear, permanent circuit labeling.
  • Main disconnect: Installed in accordance with NEC requirements for service equipment safety and accessibility.
  • Grounding and bonding: Installed two ground rods and a grounding electrode conductor (GEC) from the meter to establish a low-impedance path and stabilize the electrical system.
  • Whole-home surge protection: Added a service-level surge protective device per NEC 2020 to help safeguard sensitive electronics and appliances from transient overvoltage.
  • Branch-circuit infrastructure: Landed all electrical boxes and completed rough wiring for outlets, lights, and switches per the approved plans, or to NEC where plans were silent.
  • Life safety: Installed interlinking wire for smoke detectors and later set and powered the devices during trim-out.
  • HVAC and ventilation: Wired HVAC equipment and supplied power for bathroom builder-grade vent fans.
  • Appliances: Provided wiring for the disposal, dishwasher, range, cooktop, microwave, and dryer; final hookups performed at trim-out.
  • Dedicated kitchen circuits: Two 20A small-appliance branch circuits for countertops with GFCI protection; AFCI provided on the lighting circuit as required.
  • Laundry and dining: 20A GFCI laundry circuit and a 20A dining room circuit.
  • Bathrooms: 20A GFCI-protected bathroom circuits for code-compliant safety near water.
  • Permitting: Electrical permit included for inspections and compliance documentation.
  • Exclusions: Doorbell and chime were not included in this scope.

From Rough-In to Trim-Out

After the rough-in passed inspection, our team returned for trim-out to complete the finished electrical details. This phase included installing and powering smoke detectors, connecting ventilation fans, setting equipment disconnects for HVAC and major appliances, and making final connections to customer-supplied appliances. We also installed lighting fixtures per the approved plans. Any additions or fixture changes beyond the plans were handled by change order to keep scope, timeline, and code compliance on track.

Safety, Reliability, and Capacity for Modern Living

This 200A service and panel upgrade provides ample capacity for present-day appliances, HVAC equipment, and future additions. Dual ground rods and a properly bonded system help ensure safe fault clearing. GFCI and AFCI protections reduce shock and fire risks where required by code, while a service-level surge protector adds an extra layer of resilience against power surges.

Clear panel labeling and organized circuitry make the electrical system easier to service, troubleshoot, and expand. For homeowners and builders in Montreat, NC, these details combine to deliver a safer, cleaner, and more maintainable installation that meets the expectations of modern new construction.
