Project overview
Touchstone Electric completed a 200 amp electrical panel upgrade with whole-home surge protection for a homeowner in Taylors, SC. The project was performed by technician Brian Cain from our Greenville branch and wrapped up on April 9, 2024. The scope combined a full panel and grounding upgrade with safety improvements, modern lighting, and device replacements across the home for a safer, more reliable electrical system.
Panels & service upgrades
We furnished and installed a new 200A, 30-circuit interior panel in the garage. The panel was brought up to current code, fully labeled, and properly grounded and bonded with new ground rods. As part of this work, we added whole-home surge protection to help defend sensitive electronics and major appliances from power spikes. An electrical permit was pulled for the panel replacement, ensuring the project followed local code requirements in Taylors.

Homewide device replacement and controls
Throughout the home, our team completed a comprehensive redevice to modernize outlets and switches. This included replacing standard and GFCI receptacles and upgrading receptacles to tamper-resistant designs. All switches were properly grounded to improve safety and reliability.

Lighting enhancements
To brighten the living spaces and improve usability, we installed new energy-efficient lighting and controls:
- Six recessed cans between the kitchen and dinette on a new dimmer switch for adjustable ambience
- One recessed light above the kitchen sink with a dedicated switch for targeted task lighting
- Three LED 2-ft fixtures in closets, each with its own switch for convenient illumination
- Four new switches to separate lights and ceiling fans in bedrooms and the living room
Note: Some minor drywall cuts can be required to route new switches for recessed lighting. As discussed on this project, any drywall repair or painting is handled by others.
Dedicated circuits and future-ready capacity
In the garage, we added two 20A dedicated outlets on GFCI-protected circuits for tools and equipment. The new panel includes appropriately sized breakers, including 15A and double-pole 30A spaces, supporting present loads and leaving room for future needs like workshop gear or EV charging.
Life-safety systems
We installed a new smoke and carbon monoxide detection system that includes three smoke detectors and one combination smoke/CO unit. These battery-powered detectors add crucial layers of protection and were placed to meet safety best practices for the home’s layout.
Ongoing safety membership
This project also included our Annual Home Safety Membership – Gold, which provides periodic checks such as smoke/CO testing, panel safety reviews, code updates, and inspection of connections and terminations. Proactive maintenance helps keep the electrical system operating safely year-round.
