Our Charlotte branch completed a code-focused service upgrade for homeowner Robert Mosier in Gastonia, NC on October 4, 2023. Lead technician Danny Bishop replaced an aging panel with a new 200 amp main breaker panel, added whole-home surge protection, and improved the grounding system with a second ground rod. What we installed
- 200 amp main breaker panel (indoor, aluminum bus): New panel installation with clear circuit labeling and properly torqued terminations. The selected panel package includes ground rods, a surge protector, and up to 25 ft of service wire. Scope did not include a separate service disconnect.
- Whole-home surge protection: A listed surge protective device (SPD) installed at the main panel to help safeguard appliances, HVAC equipment, electronics, and smart devices from transient voltage spikes.
- Second ground rod: Grounding system enhancement to support a low-impedance fault path, per current code practices and manufacturer requirements.

- Performed operational checks on all circuits and verified appropriate voltage and breaker function.
- Housekeeping and final walkthrough with the homeowner to review panel labeling and SPD status.
Code compliance and permitting
We complete service upgrades to current NEC standards and applicable local codes, focusing on correct grounding/bonding, circuit labeling, breaker sizing, and equipment installation per manufacturer instructions. Per the homeowner’s direction, no municipal permit was requested. Regardless of permitting, our work practices remain code-driven, safety-first, and documentation-focused.

As part of this visit, the homeowner enrolled in our Annual Home Safety Plan - GOLD, which includes periodic checks of smoke/CO detectors, panel safety, connection inspections, and code updates guidance—helping keep the home’s electrical system reliable year-round.
