200 Amp Panel Upgrade and Breaker Replacement in Simpsonville

Touchstone Electric completed a comprehensive 200A main electrical panel upgrade and breaker replacement for Marilyn French in Simpsonville, SC. The project focused on safety, reliability, and code compliance, including proper grounding and bonding, clear circuit labeling, and whole-home surge protection. All work was completed with permitting and a final inspection.

To minimize disruption, we arranged limited power through a generator during the planned outage window, allowing essential devices to remain powered while the main service was offline.

Scope of Work

  • Removed the existing main panel and installed a new 200A indoor aluminum-bus main panel.
  • Brought the installation up to current electrical code, including grounding and bonding the panel.
  • Reconnected the service entrance conductors and all existing branch circuits.
  • Completed precise circuit identification and labeling for easier future maintenance.
  • Installed a surge protector included with the panel package (includes a $25k warranty on the device).
  • Pulled permits and coordinated the required inspection for code compliance.

New Breakers Installed

  • 9× 15A standard breakers – including bathroom lighting circuits brought in line with 2020 code requirements and other standard lighting/general-use circuits.
  • 11× 20A standard breakers – dedicated to small appliance and general-purpose receptacle circuits.
  • 1× 40A standard breaker – ready for heavier loads such as a dryer, water heater, air condenser, spa, or EV charger.

These updates ensure critical home systems have correctly sized overcurrent protection and modern safety features.

Results and Homeowner Benefits

  • Safer service equipment: A modern 200A indoor panel improves fault protection and reliability.
  • Code-compliant installation: Completed under permit with inspection, meeting current standards.
  • Better organization: Clean labeling and tidy wiring make future troubleshooting faster.
  • Surge defense: Added protection against power surges for sensitive electronics and appliances.
  • Future-ready capacity: Properly sized breakers and spaces support present and potential upgrades.
  • Warranty coverage: The installed panel includes a 20-year transferable warranty. Our copper panel option (not part of this job) carries a 50-year warranty for those seeking an alternative solution.
