Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte branch (Matthews) completed a full 200 amp interior panel upgrade and breaker installation for homeowner Garrison Peele in Charlotte. Finished on July 31, 2024, this project modernized the home’s electrical service, enhanced safety, and prepared the system for present and future power needs. All work was permitted and inspected.
Scope of work
- New 200A interior main panel (aluminum): Removed the existing gear and furnished/installed a 200 amp indoor panel. Brought the installation to current electrical code, replaced the main lugs, clearly labeled the new panel, and reconnected the service entrance cable along with all existing branch circuits.
- Grounding and bonding: Properly grounded and bonded the panel. Drove new ground rods (typically ~8 ft), connected the grounding electrode conductor, and secured all bonding/grounding terminations. Conductor run kept within the 25 ft maximum listed for this scope.
- Whole-home surge protection: Installed a surge protector that includes a $25,000 warranty to help guard connected equipment from damaging voltage spikes.
- Breaker installation:
- 8 × 20A standard breakers for small appliance and general-use circuits
- 10 × 15A standard breakers for bathroom lighting (meeting 2020 code) and general branch circuits
- 1 × 25A double-pole for a small condenser, well pump, or mini-split
- 1 × 30A double-pole for a dryer, water heater, air condenser, spa, or EV charger
- 1 × 40A standard for higher-demand equipment as needed
- Permitting and inspection included: We handled the permit process and coordinated final inspection for a smooth, code-compliant upgrade.
- Temporary power plan: Power was disconnected during the panel change; a generator was made available for limited power usage during the outage.
- Notes on scope: The panel upgrade scope did not include a service disconnect, feeder, or meter upgrade (if needed). Breakers were provided and installed as listed above.
