200 Amp Electrical Panel Upgrade in Brevard, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Charlotte team from our Matthews branch completed a code-focused 200-amp electrical panel upgrade for homeowner Ann Hill in Brevard, NC. The work was permitted and inspected, and led by our technician Chris Rogers on March 21, 2025.
This residential service upgrade replaces an aging panel with a safer, properly grounded and bonded system, adds surge protection, and organizes the home’s circuits for reliability and future capacity.
Scope of Work Completed
- Removed the existing equipment and installed a new indoor 200-amp aluminum main panel.
- Grounded and bonded the panel to current NEC standards.
- Reconnected service entrance conductors and all existing branch circuits.
- Clearly labeled every circuit for fast identification and troubleshooting.
- Installed whole-home surge protection (device includes a $10k warranty).
- Secured permits and coordinated inspection with the local authority.
- Provided a generator for limited power use during the brief planned outage.
The project focused on the main panel replacement and breaker installation; a service disconnect, feeder, or meter upgrade was not part of this scope.

Safety, Code, and Warranty Details
The new panel includes a 20-year transferable panel warranty, and the surge protector offers added protection for the home’s electronics. As Brevard’s inspections continue to reflect NEC 2020 implementation, some homes may require AFCI breaker upgrades. In cases where AFCI is required, preexisting wiring issues (such as shared neutrals) can cause nuisance tripping and may necessitate diagnostic time to resolve. Our team reviews requirements and options with homeowners before any changes are made.
