Project overview: 20-amp microwave circuit install in Charlotte, NC

Our Charlotte team completed a clean, code-compliant kitchen power upgrade for Walsh Crawl Space & Structural Repair. On March 14, 2025, technician Chris Rogers installed a dedicated 20-amp microwave circuit, ensuring reliable power and reducing nuisance trips in their Charlotte home. This job was scheduled through our Matthews branch and served the greater Charlotte area.

What we installed

  • (2) 20-amp standard breakers added in the service panel for small appliance loads, including a dedicated run for the microwave.
  • 80 ft of 12/2 NM-B (Romex) routed from the panel to the kitchen, properly supported and protected per code.
  • (2) standard receptacles installed and labeled for the microwave locations, with matching cover plates and tidy terminations.

All wiring was neatly stapled, transitions were made in approved boxes, and circuit identification was updated at the panel to make future service simple and safe.

Why a dedicated 20-amp microwave circuit matters

  • Prevents breaker trips: Microwaves draw high current on startup. A dedicated 20-amp line helps avoid tripping shared kitchen circuits.
  • Protects appliances: Stable power delivery supports manufacturer requirements and can extend equipment life.
  • Meets modern code expectations: Today’s kitchens are designed with more dedicated small-appliance circuits for safety and performance.
  • Future-ready: Capacity and labeling make upgrades and service straightforward down the road.

Our process for outlet and circuit installs

For this Charlotte project, we mapped the run from the main panel, verified load capacity, and selected a route that minimized wall impact. We pulled 12/2 NM-B, secured the cable at code-compliant intervals, set boxes to correct depth, and terminated devices with proper torque and polarity. Finally, we tested the new circuit under load and updated the panel directory.

Whether you need a single receptacle replaced or a new small-appliance circuit added, Touchstone Electric’s Outlets & Switches team keeps your kitchen functional, safe, and neat.
