Project overview in Bear Creek, NC
Touchstone Electric’s Raleigh branch completed a comprehensive electrical service upgrade for Ground Works - Raleigh in Bear Creek, NC on February 3, 2026. Led by technician Gustavo Peralta, the project centered on replacing an indoor 150A main panel, installing a 100A subpanel feed, adding new breakers and wiring, and integrating surge protection. The work was permitted and inspected to align with current electrical code and local requirements.
This upgrade improves safety, reliability, and future capacity while organizing circuits for easier service and expansion.
Scope of work completed
- 150A main panel replacement (aluminum, indoor): Panel brought to current code, grounded and bonded, main lug replaced, all existing circuits reconnected, and the new panel labeled for clarity. The installation included a surge protector with a $10k warranty and comes with a 20-year transferable panel warranty.
- 100A subpanel feed: Installed a 100A (2-pole) breaker in the main panel and ran approximately 40 ft of SER #2 (4-wire) to the subpanel location. We mounted the new panel on a prepared surface and cleanly extended circuits from the old breaker locations to the new subpanel as needed.
- Conduit and fittings: Added about 30 ft of 1-1/2" PVC conduit with the required connectors and LBs to protect feeders and maintain neat routing.
- Branch circuit upgrades: Installed new standard breakers, including (2) 15A breakers serving bathroom lights and general-purpose lighting, and (1) 20A breaker dedicated to small appliances.
- New circuit wiring: Pulled 20 ft of 14/2 NM-B for 15A lighting/general circuits and 25 ft of 12/2 NM-B for 20A kitchen and appliance circuits. Junction boxes were included where required for safe splicing and accessibility.
- Temporary power considerations: During the outage window required for the panel swap, Touchstone made a generator available for limited power usage to reduce downtime at the property.
- Permitting and inspection: All work was performed under permit and scheduled for inspection in line with local authority requirements.
Built for safety, capacity, and code compliance
Upgrading to a modern 150A main panel with a dedicated 100A subpanel feed ensures better load distribution, reduced nuisance tripping, and room for future additions. Grounding and bonding were verified to current standards, and surge protection adds an extra layer of defense for sensitive equipment.
As inspectors continue implementing NEC 2020 provisions in the region, certain circuits may require AFCI protection. In some homes, AFCI breakers can reveal pre-existing conditions such as shared neutrals that may need diagnosis and correction. Our Raleigh electricians address these code-driven updates methodically to maintain both safety and performance.
